Homeschooling in Utah

utah-300x200In 2005, the Utah State Legislature amended public school compulsory attendance statutes to require that the Utah Board of Education must annually excuse a school-age minor from public school attendance if the child’s parents sign an affidavit stating that their child will attend a home school and that the homeschooling will include the same subjects as taught in public schools and will offer instruction for the same number of days per year as in Utah public schools.  Utah public school districts have no responsibility or authority related to a home school’s curriculum, student assessment, instructional materials or instructional evaluation.  Utah home school parents must annually submit a signed affidavit to their local school district stating their child will be homeschooled in the manner required by the State Board of Education.
