Homeschooling in Rhode Island

rhodeisland-300x176Rhode Island requires that home school curriculum must be approved by a “local school committee” to determine whether the courses meet Rhode Island education law standards.  At-home instruction is generally approved when the period of attendance is five-and-one-half hours per day for a minimum of 180 days a year and that the home school parent maintains attendance records and a subject-by-subject records of daily instruction activities.  A teaching certificate is not required of home school instructors but parents must agree with the “local school committee” as to “a method of evaluating the student’s progress in all required subjects.”
