Homeschooling in New Mexico

newmexicoNew Mexico state law defines a home school as “the operation by a parent, guardian, or other person having custody or control of a school-age person of a home study program of instruction that provides a basic academic education program, including reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and sciences.”  Any person in a teaching position in a New Mexico home school must hold a high school diploma or a GED.  Parents planning to operate a home school must submit written notification to the New Mexico Secretary of Education within 30 days of starting the school and before August 1st of each year the home school is in operation.
