Missouri home school parents have the option of notifying the Superintendent of their local school district that they intend to homeschool their children, but there is no law requiring them to notify anyone or register the school with any organization or entity. Even notification of withdrawal from public school is optional. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education “does NOT regulate or monitor home schooling in Missouri.” Because homeschooling is not regulated, it is considered to be an “unaccredited” education option. Homeschool teacher certification is not required and there are no legal requirements for testing or record keeping.
