Homeschool parents in Maine must file written Notice of Intent (NOI) to their local school district officials and to the Commissioner of Education within ten days of the date the homeschool begins operation or, if the home school operates on the public school schedule, by September 1st. Every year thereafter, the homeschool program must file a Statement of Intent to Continue Home Instruction. The notice of continuation must include the results of one of five possible annual assessment formats. A home school parent in Maine must keep copies of the original NOI and each annual assessment report until the home school program is discontinued and must be willing to make these reports available, on request, to the Commissioner of Education.
