The State of Delaware defines home schools as “nonpublic” schools. As nonpublic schools, home schools must offer essentially the same curriculum as do public schools in the state. Delaware parents wishing to start a home school can form a single-family homeschool, a multi-family home school, or a “single-family homeschool coordinated with the local school district.” All three options require a 180-day school year. None of the options outline standardized teacher qualifications or require certification of teachers. All three options require that attendance records be reported to the Delaware Department of Education no later than July 31st of each year.
