Homeschooling in Alaska

alaskaHome schools in Alaska are legal if they fall into one of five categories: (1) a home where children are being educated by their parent or legal guardian; (2) a home where children are tutored by a certified teacher; (3) a home where a child is registered in an Alaska Department of Education-approved correspondence study program; (4) a child who has been approved by the local school board to participate in an “educational experience;” or (5) a “religious or other private school” approved by the State.  Children who attend school under any of these options are exempt from Alaska’s compulsory public school attendance laws.  Home school parents are not required to register their school with state or local school districts.
