Homeschooling in Alabama

alabamaThe Code of Alabama 1975 states that, although there is no specific legal requirements for homeschooling in Alabama, “a home school can seek qualification as a private school, church school or under the private tutor option.”  Private schools must offer coursework “in the several branches of study required to be taught in the public schools” and must use the English language in the classroom.  Church schools are not required to offer any particular curriculum or to use English in the classroom.  Home schools can qualify as private schools in Alabama, but to do so they “must hold a certificate issued by the state superintendent of education that shows [all legal] requirements are being met.”
