GC Pre-Algebra is a transitional mathematics course for grade levels 8-9. The purpose of this course is to shift the learner from the concrete world of arithmetic into the abstract world of algebra. The first step in this process involves performing operations with integers. The student is then introduced to variables and learns how to use them in simplifying expressions, adding like terms, and solving equations and inequalities. Next, the basic rules of exponents are explored, and the coordinate plane is introduced. The concepts of fractions, ratios, proportions, and percentages are reviewed. Finally, the student is introduced to probability, statistics, and geometry.
