American Sign Language 1 (Credit: 1.00)

You probably already know that American Sign Language (ASL) is the predominant language of deaf communities in North America but what you may not realize is that there is much more to ASL than hand gestures. In American Sign Language 1, you will explore the fundamentals of ASL – what is a sign and who uses this language and why? You will learn how to communicate in the real-world using sign language and receive an introduction to deaf culture and the global deaf community. You will also explore the importance of language structure, facial expressions, and body language, all of which play a major role when communicating using ASL.
