GSN’s web based delivery of Virtual Curriculum is a unique model that allows a school to start their own Virtual Learning Academy. Schools are able to identify and serve the individual needs of their students, yet remain flexible to the needs of their community. Schools using this model are able to maintain positive control of their fiscal assets, their operations, their school management, and ultimately, their response to the students and families they serve.
GSN consultswith the key administrator’s to establish a framework of how GSN’s Virtual Curriculum delivery can best be tailored to meet the needs of the New Virtual Learning Academy.
Development of a Virtual Learning Academy occurs along a continuum rather than in an event. GSN works with administrators throughout the entire process. GSN then provides an onsite training for all of the Virtual Learning Academy’s key faculty and administrative staff. (back)

7. GSN’s Virtual Curriculum is delivered primarily asynchronously. The
curriculum provides enough flexibility to be delivered synchronously on-site
based to individual or groups of students. Courses are completed by the student through the GSN website. Each course appears on the platform with 18 or 36 weekly lessons. The student will log in to each lesson and complete a variety of activities in each subject matter. Questions include essay, multiple choice, problem solving, true/false, & a variety of response formats.
Students are able to maintain an on-going dialogue with their instructor via the internal e-mail system or by writing comments after each question when necessary.
The customized LMS ensures teachers receive students’ work quickly and
provide timely feedback to questions and ideas.
The system also ensures both students and parents are instantly apprised
of student’s progress. (back)
8. Students assessment and progress: Each lesson includes an assessment that is submitted directly to the teacher. Each course includes a mid-term and final assessment reinforcing the learning objectives.
Teachers become coaches, observing student effort and quality of work
through visual displays, and give feedback by correcting assignments, with
the ability to mark each question correct, incorrect or have students redo
assignments. Teachers may override assignments, grades and material, as
well as provide additional assignments through attachments and the internal e-mail system. The students’ work will be reinforced by the instructor who will work one-on-one via the web with the student. The instructor provides necessary guidance and coursework review, while encouraging students toward self-directed and self-paced learning.
Upon completion of a unit or assessment, the student submits work by
pressing an on-screen submit button. The student’s submittal appears in the teachers customized webpage immediately as a “lesson to grade.” or a “final to grade.” The teacher reviews/grades the work and sends comments and suggestions back to the student.
Parents are able to view all student course materials, assessments, and
graded lessons at any time. (back)
9. Student Attendance Tracking: When a student logs on using a unique user ID and password, a seat time log timer is initiated. The timer includes an automated protocol that logs the student off if there is no account activity for approximately 10 minutes.
The Teacher and POC Portal’s both include the ability to view a student’s seat time. The teacher views seat time applied to each weekly lesson. The POC views seat time for each weekly lesson, as well as overall seat time. This ensures that a student does not log on and walk away from GSN’s Virtual Curriculum.
• Students see overall progress, number of lessons completed for each course, and the overall average for each course. The student portal also includes visual cues for the units that have been viewed, partially completed, submitted, returned to be redone, and graded.
• Parents have the same read-only views as the student.
• Teacher and Administrator Portals include the ability to see student progress as the student sees it, as well as a variety of views of student progress individually, by class, by course, and by teacher.
The teacher has the overall responsibility and authority for grading lessons, amending standardized curriculum to individual needs, sbility to over ride grade for amendments, & assigning final grade for each lesson & course. All tools for completing the responsibilities are inclusive to GSN’s LMS.
Administrator can view all teacher and student activities through a variety of
integrated tools and reports. (back)

11. Virtual Learning has shown positive results when parents are directly involved in their students learning activities. GSN’s Virtual Curriculum and LMS allows parents to have as much control over their students learning as your Virtual Learning Academy permits. Typically parents are given the read only “Parent Portal” to be able to view all student activity and progress.
GSN has implemented many successful home programs allowing the parent
to be added into the teacher module with a lead teacher in as the POC,
overseeing and facilitating the home option. (back)
