Layout A no nameHow to Celebrate a Decade

Ready for some decade trivia?

On January 9, 2014 the Queen Mary 2 celebrated a decade of sailing.  The anniversary is to be commemorated by a spectacular firework display.

5 days before, January 4, NASA “celebrated” the 10th anniversary of the Mars Rover.  Didn’t read about any fireworks for that one, though.  Perhaps we should ask the Martians.

10 years is quite a milestone!  How do you celebrate 10 years since college?  You lose a few pounds and go to that reunion!  How about 10 years of marriage?  Most people celebrate with a special get-away or a piece of jewelry.  (We had twins just before our 10th anniversary so a whole night’s sleep would have been the best commemoration.  Yeah, well, that didn’t happen for a few years!)

Global Student Network is 10 years old this year.  That is 10 years of offering online educational options for students world-wide.  Thousands of students have benefited over the past decade from the Global’s careful selection of the very best web-based curricula.  Global’s unique all-under-one-roof approach means there are 6 curriculum choices all available from one site – www.globalstudentnetwork.com.

So what is Global doing on its 10th anniversary year? Taking a break?  Resting on its laurels?  Nope!

First item on this year’s calendar is to add yet another super curriculum option to its lineup.  Global is preparing to partner with Edmentum to offer Plato Courseware.

Plato Courseware is a standards-based online learning program for grades 6-12 grounded in a tradition of solid research, sound pedagogy, and applied innovation. Its rigorous and relevant curriculum is designed to challenge students with a 21st century approach – engaging them with interactive, media-rich content.  It offers a wide-range of courses as well as preparation for college and career exams to ensure learning success even beyond high school.

Plato Courseware alone would be a sufficient addition to mark 10 years.  After all, offering excellent curriculum is what it does best.  But Global is going above and beyond.

Global is also planning to roll out Study Island.

Study Island is a place where students can practice what they are learning in engaging (fun!) ways.  It is designed to help students K-12 master content and improve skills in core subject areas.   Study Island’s high impact, high value learning programs provide quality academic support, practice, and real-time assessment data. There is immediate feedback and extra help and practice when the student needs it.

Study Island is ideal for either self-paced, individualized learning or parent-directed learning.  Students can work through questions using a standard test format, an interactive game format, or printable worksheets.

So, be on the lookout! Plato Courseware and Study Island will be coming to Global Student Network soon!
