I had a dream last night.  I dreamed I was on a flight and the pilot kept asking the flight attendant for navigational help!  The flight attendant would look out the window in the seat next to mine then give the pilot instructions like, “I see lights over there!  That should be the airport!  Turn right!”

That’s one dream I would not want to come true!

Perhaps homeschooling has been a dream of yours.  Getting started can seem as daunting as landing a plane with only a flight-attendant-navigational-system!  Some good technology would have been helpful to the pilot in my dream and some good technology can be useful in YOUR homeschool dream.  The name of this technology ~  Digital Learning

Digital learning means effective education.  Looking for an individualized education? Online courseware offers this and much more. Students can work at their own pace, whether advancing quickly or requiring extra practice or instruction.  Parents can receive immediate feedback as to how their child is progressing.  Online courseware provides a customized, effective learning experience that motivates students and enhances their love of learning.  One helpful site for online curriculum is www.globalstudentnetwork.com.  Global Student Network offers six of the best online curriculum from one location, saving you time and effort.  Kind of like one-stop shopping!  You can view a demo of each curriculum (A+, GradPoint, Plato, Christian, Apex Learning, Honors, Rosetta Stone) and even chat with an enrollment specialist.

Digital learning offers educational structure and support. Homeschooling not necessarily mean that Mom or Dad has to double as teacher.  In the digital learning community, there are virtual schools are staffed by certified teachers who direct your child’s progress and are available for questions.  Because it is a virtual school, your child can “attend” from home or wherever you choose to access the internet.  One virtual school well worth looking into is International Virtual Learning Academy (www.internationalvla.com).  It is an accredited online private school that has helped many students to reach their educational goals.

Digital learning makes homeschool affordable.  Let’s face it – there are financial considerations to homeschooling.  Usually one parent needs to be available during the day, possibly meaning loss of income.  The cost of curricula and materials used at home can be significant.  One tool to help ease this financial load is United Digital Learning (www.uniteddigitallearning.com).  United offers their online curriculum through a monthly payment plan.  Pay-as-you-go means if the curriculum is not working for your child, you have not made a huge, year-long commitment.  You can find another curriculum that is a better fit.  Almost a try-it-before-you-buy-it approach.  Plus, when you do find a curriculum or program you like, the cost is broken down to better fit your budget.

So when you are ready to see your homeschool dream take off and soar, take some technology along with you!
